along the earth By Bicycle?.. why the heck?!

The number one question I got when I told someone about my planned bicycle tour. So, I’ll try to be brief, that’s why:
In 2013, I started saving money for a future world trip. Not knowing when this trip will take place, how long it would take or if it all remains a dream. As I then, in early 2015, bought and read the book “Zwei nach Shanghai” ( highly recommended!), a bicycle tour from Berlin to Shanghai by the Hoepner-Brothers, I was hooked from the beginning.
Thenceforth I knew “this is it!” and this whole thing slowly but surely started to become a plan, even if subconsciously in the beginning. In 2018, three years later, I was convinced the right time is now! I set myself a start date and started pedaling on the 12. January 2019.
But why by bicycle?
For me, this way of traveling not only offers almost unlimited freedom. It covers all the things I like the most: adventure, camping, cycling so as many new physical and mental challenges. While traveling by bicycle, you’re fast enough to get ahead. On the other hand, you’re also slow enough to perceive the environment and its changes through different areas or countries.
It offers the opportunity to explore these unknown roads and villages away from the big cities. To feel nature and experience the conditions being outdoors all the time. As well as getting in touch easier with natives and hearing their stories. And.. not to forget, there is that small but fine fact that I love cycling! Hard and challenging uphills or well-earned, long and refreshing downhills. These are just a few reasons why I cycle several times a week. I was ready for more!
As an ambitious photographer/filmmaker, my goal was to document this journey, the cultures, and their people so as the other beauty our planet has to offer. My goal is not only to inspire others to travel more, going outdoors, and enjoying nature. My aim is also to show people what we have to lose and keep fighting for: the planet we live on!
It’s not only a dream of mine to see, experience, and learn as much as possible and really get to know our planet. It’s also my motivation to make a contribution and give something back to the world and the people who are in need of help. For this reason, I’m running a fundraiser to raise money for Helvetas and their Water Projects around the globe. I’m sure, that together we can make a move!
